Dr. Douglas Courtemanche

Dr. Douglas Courtemanche is a plastic surgeon with a special interest in cleft and craniofacial surgery. A graduate of UBC’s medical school (1983) he interned at Memorial University in Newfoundland, returned to BC for his residency in plastic surgery and completed a craniofacial fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne as well as a Master of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.

He is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at UBC and works at BC Children’s Hospital and the Vancouver General Hospital.

Having started in practice in Vancouver in 1991, he brings a little over 30 years of clinical and academic experience to the care of his patients and the support of his excellent colleagues as one of the surgeon leaders with the Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Program. He has worked to support system improvements to enable the Team to meet its mandate to provide care at the standards set by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association.

In addition, he manages a diverse pediatric and adult practice focused on craniofacial conditions (including trauma) and vascular anomalies. He is the Director of the Vascular Anomalies Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital.

Outside of medicine he enjoys cycling, gardening, guitar, spending time with his grandchildren and family, and, of course, his border collie.

His other major passion is his work with Doctors for Planetary Health – West Coast, working for social and environmental justice and challenging colonial structures to make the necessary changes in the face of the global climate emergency. He works closely with likeminded colleagues to educate medical students and works with hospital and health authority leaders on recently formed green health committees.

Last year he bought an electric cargo bike to replace his car for things like grocery shopping; but had to upgrade some parts to make it more bike and less electric!

 Vincent Kou is responsible for acquisitions, investments and partnerships including investor relations and public relations. In addition, Vincent oversees the Development and the Sales & Marketing department.

Since joining Brivia Group, Vincent led various major acquisition files and was accountable for the diversification of development portfolio and the national expansion of the Group. Prior to joining Brivia Group, he held numerous senior positions with Rio Tinto, a global mining company over 15 years. Most recently, he was based in Singapore for four (4) years with the Commercial Group of Rio Tinto. Prior to his recent position in Singapore, he was the Chief Counsel, Director of Mergers & Acquisitions (Asia) and Chief Representative of Alcan Group in China; he was also the Chief Counsel, Business Development & Growth for Rio Tinto Alcan for more than 10 years in Montreal, Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore respectively, where he was responsible for the company’s legal function in Asia, focusing primarily in commercial, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestments. He was also the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary for a mining company based in Hong Kong with operating assets in Mongolia, which was a Rio Tinto Group company listed on both the TSX and HKSE prior to its divestment.

Lawyer and member of Barreau du Québec since 1997, Vincent has a vast experience in Asia, notably in China including doing business with Chinese private and state-owned enterprises. He is a member of the Board of Directors at Montreal Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Canada China Business Council Quebec Chapter Advisory Council. He is very active and engaged with the Asian communities and various non-profit organizations in Montréal and internationally.

Vincent holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Université de Sherbrooke, a Graduate Certificate in Marketing Advanced Program from INSEAD and a Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Finance from National University of Singapore.

DAVID SUE A QUAN

David immigrated to Canada from China at a young age, and grew up in Vancouver where he has lived his entire life. David’s legal career commenced at a litigation boutique in downtown Vancouver where he represented clients in all levels of the British Columbia Courts and in Federal Court. Additionally, David started a property management and real estate investing company, and acted as in-house counsel to a local real estate development company before joining as an associate at Direction Legal LLP.

Since his call to the bar, David has practiced primarily as a barrister with a focus on real estate litigation representing both buyers and sellers in failed real estate transactions, wills and estates litigation, and matrimonial law with a focus on tracing overseas financial assets and division of property. David also has extensive experience in complex commercial disputes regarding the law of resulting and constructive trusts and beneficial ownership.
